The City of Richardson is located in North Central Texas, approximately 10 miles north of downtown Dallas. Richardson is completely surrounded by incorporated cities:

Of the 27.4 square miles contained within the borders of the City of Richardson, 18.2 square miles lie in Dallas County; the remaining 9.2 square miles, all adjacent to the northern city limit line, fall in Collin County.
Richardson has more than 91,000 residents, a city-wide work force which is nearly that large, and over 500 high tech companies. In addition, Richardson has two nationally acclaimed public schools systems, one State university, two community colleges, two public university satellite campuses, a flourishing hospitality industry, a renowned orchestra and thriving arts and culture community to enhance quality of life and business.
The importance of education to the Richardson community is undeniable. The Dallas County portion of the City (the southern 2/3) is served by the Richardson Independent School District. The Collin County portion (the northern 1/3) is served by the Plano Independent School District. Both are highly acclaimed educational systems and together have posted impressive wins in seven of the past 11 National Academic Decathlon Championships. 85% of the systems’ high school graduates go on to enroll in college.
